Carole Arnold, community fundraiser for the Royal British Legion, said: "It was a very moving and poignant service.
"These services are always undertaken with such respect – it's a great milestone.
"We are very honoured to have Brigadier Smith as our branch president – it really is a great honour for us.
"We have representatives from the Citadel, 42 Commando, 30 Commando, 3 Commando and the Royal Navy in Plymouth.
"Our remit is to help service personnel and ex-service personnel, and by founding this new branch we are doing exactly that."
Anyone wishing to join the branch can do so by contacting Fiona Weekes on 01392 273111.
