Rally will show support for POs
POSTMASTERS and mistresses will come together with local Liberal Democrat MPs and campaigners from Cornish communities this evening to show support for the Post Office Network.
The rally marks the end of the six-week consultation by Post Office Ltd and the campaign to save the counters is drawing to a close by uniting all Cornwall's villages and towns in opposition to the closure programme, which local Lib Dems have branded 'unnecessary, arbitrary and divisive'.
In Devon 45 branches are threatened with closure, including seven in Plymouth – at Beaumont Road, Pennycomequick, St Levan Valley, Underwood, West Hoe, Plympton St Maurice and Stone Barton.
In Plymouth, as elsewhere, people have rallied around their Post Offices with public demonstrations of support.
Hundreds of readers filled out coupons in The Herald giving reasons why their local Post Office should not close, which have been forwarded to Post Office Ltd.
The Cornwall-wide rally, which will feature speeches from postmasters and mistresses, campaigners and parliamentary candidates, will take place at Bodmin Shire Hall at 7.30pm.
The meeting was being chaired by Lord Teverson, former MEP for Cornwall.

“I heard that 70% of the coupons filled out by Herald readers never arrived at their destination.”

“Here we go again. The Lib Dems trying to make political when they know full well the closures are a direct result from Brussels. Maybe they would be a bit more credible if they pointed that out. But then they want to stay in this extremely inefficient and corrupt institution. Why I don't know because if they cared for their constituents they would support withdrawal.”
