The event was a film-lover's dream, with items on sale
including posters and banners for old and new classic films
like The Golden Compass, Harry Potter and the Order of the
Phoenix, Prince Caspian and Sex and the City.
Visitors also had the chance to snap up themed T-shirts,
baseball caps, and DVDs. It is the last time such an auction
will be held as the cinema is closing on October 2. The Reel
Cinema is an institution in Plymouth, and at 70 years old is
the oldest in the city.
Located in the heart of the city, it boasts three screens,
with the screen one auditorium seating 582 people.
It has also been a venue for birthday parties, themed
evenings, children's parties and concerts, having famously
hosted the Beatles in 1963 and 1964.
The charity auction was held in aid of Plymouth Sound Unite,
the official charity of radio station Plymouth Sound. The
charity has raised more than £1 million for local charities,
community groups and organisations in the Plymouth area.
Beneficiaries include the neonatal intensive care unit at
Derriford Hospital, the Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for children
and donkeys, and Ridgeway School.

“Isn't the Reel site being redeveloped to include a new multiplex? Maybe I misread my Herald.”
