ALL THE WAY from Huntington Beach California, Reel Big Fish return to the city to play another skanktastic show at the University Main Hall on Sunday, January 17.

One of the most consistently successful bands to emerge during the third wave of ska in the mid- to late-Nineties, they have been touring extensively since their inception in 1992.

This show will be one of the first in their 20th year of skanking all over the world.

Best known for single Sell Out, RBF have enjoyed cult hits with and without brass and helped develop a style which although still steeped in the feel-good party ska vibe of their early years, also has a more mature rock direction to fill out their sound and make them more relevant to a crossover audience.

Their seventh studio album, Fame, Fortune and Fornication, was released last year and features ten high-energy cover songs including the band's signature ska take on Talk Dirty to Me by Poison, Won't Back Down by Tom Petty, Authority Song by John Mellencamp and The Long Run by The Eagles.

Fame, Fortune and Fornication was produced by Aaron Barrett, the band's lead singer, lead guitarist and primary songwriter.

Aaron is the only musician in the line-up to have remained since the band's formation in 1992.

Never taking themselves too seriously, the band members go out of their way to poke fun at themselves and everything else.

Famed for their legendary festival and arena performances, this is a band now at the peak of their ability on stage and it's therefore the best time to see them perform their back catalogue containing some of the top ska punk tunes of a generation.

Main support comes from Big D And The Kids Table a highly qualified seven-piece who have moved steadily up the ranks of the world's most relevant ska punk bands through a strict DIY work ethic and constant evolution which has seen last year's release through SideOneDummy Records Fluent In Stroll reach number 22 in the American charts.

This exciting Massachusetts-based band have played an average of 200 shows a year since 1995 so they're well versed in what it takes to get any dance-floor moving.

The other support comes from Manchester's dynamic five-piece Sonic Boom 6 – who are no strangers to the city.

They mix their shared love of the dance-floor elements of reggae, jungle and ska, with the social and political commentary of the world's more lyrically conscious hip-hop artists to create a truly unique sound that is reaching a larger audience on a seemingly monthly basis.

After their triumphant main stage festival appearance at last year's Reading Festival the 'Boom' seem set to move into the national consciousness as one of our most exciting alternative acts.

Tickets are sold out, but try Plymouth Musicians Collective on 01752 225884 for returns.
