Review by Clare Robinson: Australian Pink Floyd at Plymouth Pavilions
Australian Pink Floyd Plymouth Pavilions
THE reason the Australian Pink Floyd Show works so well is because Floyd's music is almost classical in its complexity and variety and therefore lends itself to being performed accurately, note for note.

Plus the individual Floyd band members were never particularly big showmen, so as long as the vocals resonate reasonably, the fact that the on-stage persona don't match, doesn't matter too much.
Of course the light and laser show also helps and the display at Plymouth Pavilions last Thursday was one of the most spectacular I've seen.

The circular screen worked well as the centre-piece for projections, although during the first half there was almost too much to look at and one felt at times somewhat distracted from the music.
The first half of the show consisted of Floyd's classic album Dark Side of the Moon being played out, sequentially, including quirky sound effects – as true to the original as humanly possible.
The second half featured a random display of classic Floyd from across their career, finishing with a superb rendition of Comfortably Numb.
The Pavilions is sometimes criticised for having less than adequate acoustics, but the sound engineers obviously knew their stuff and the sound produced, was absolutely crystal clear so that it was just like listening to a high-quality massive stereo system, which together with the stunning visuals really did make the experience well worth the ticket price.
