Right-hand turn ban confirmed
TRANSPORT chiefs have banned right-turns into a side street from a traffic-choked main road.
Plymouth City Council has prohibited vehicles from going right from Laira Bridge Road into Finnigan Road. Commuters have suffered long delays for the past five weeks during the council's Plymouth's Eastern Corridor improvements on the bridge.
Cllr Mark Coker, the cabinet member for transport, has signed off a decision which will impose more restrictions on traffic.
The council has banned right turns from Laira Bridge Road into Finnigan Road and U-turns on Laira Bridge Road and Finnigan Road.

Council officers said the changes provided "capacity improvements" and allowed improvements to pedestrian and cycling facilities. Authority documents show it held a three-week consultation.
Letters were sent to about 700 homes and businesses in Cattedown, but only three objections to the ban on right turns were received.

“And yet the council still allow the uncontrolled right turn from Embankment Rd into Lanhydrock Rd, which causes chaos and more near misses, but no this administration loves a grid-locked city. Congestion charge soon people?”

“The Herald found it equaly hilarious by sending out "journalists" on a fun run . Shame they didnt stop off on their fun run and interview the people hit by this farce. They then wouldnt be seen laughing their silly heads off in the rag.”

“Glad you idiots find it funny that your taxes are spent on 3 blokes working an 8 hour day spread over 3 months causing mayhem and businesses suffering big time for the second time in a row in the city . Very funny eh ?”

“The reason the right hand turn is being banned is so that traffic coming off Laira Bridge towards Gdynia way doesn't have to spend so long sitting at the traffic lights. Instead of being a 3 way traffic control system it will now be a two way control system.
Anyone wishing to go from Embankment Lane to Finnigan Road can go right at the end of Embankment Lane then take the left turn on the Gdynia way approach, taking them along Faraday Road.
The principle is sound and the bridge does need work, if you walk / cycle across it you will see the state of the surfaces.”

“I don't know why they make up these no right turns
I see a new person every day turning right on Outland road going towards Plymouth Argyle's ground. You are not allowed to do it but everyone always seems to do it ! Police don't seem to care nor do the drivers”

“Leicester City Council did something similar a year or two back. The road past the rail station is London Road and access to the station car park if you are coming that way is just beyond that by turning right into a road called Campbell Street. This junction was controlled by a traffic light filter so there was never any problem with it. The council like here in Plymouth banned motorists from turning right (they actually filled the gap in) and forced everyone wishing to use Campbell Street to take a detour of over a mile to use an already busy roundabout and come back on themselves to gain access. I asked someone from the Highways department at the time why this was being done and he told me there had been "one or two near misses" .
Leicester had and has still got a Labour Council, the party that hates the motorist. This is now being proved here in Plymouth with this cock up and increased traffic congestion.”
