Rise in young people matched to first choice secondary school in Plymouth
MORE than 95 per cent of young people in Plymouth have been accepted to their first choice of secondary school.
Over the next few days thousands of primary school pupils will learn where they will be heading in September, and the council has confirmed that 95.3 per cent of the 2,389 applicants were matched with their first choice – up from 91.6 per cent last year.
-

About four per cent of pupils were given their second choice of school and less than one per cent were matched with their third or were not given any of their preferred choices.
Councillor Nicky Williams, council member for children and young people said: "We're extremely pleased that even more young people got their first choice of secondary school this year. We are determined as a council to ensure that the quality of schools throughout the city is such that no matter where a child lives, they will have access to an excellent school just around the corner."

“It is a known fact that 2001 was a low birth rate year and so due to this there are fewer children fighting over the places that are available at the schools and so more children are being offered their first choices.....sorry PCC you shouldn't take the glory for this one!..lol”
