The road remained open but one lane was blocked until about 3pm when the tree was removed.

And tailbacks were also caused after a crash on Alma Road. A Rover saloon car was in collision with a Peugeot moped at around 4.20pm.

It is believed the moped driver sustained slight injuries and was treated by paramedics.

Traffic built up between Pennycomequick and Milehouse.

Meanwhile, on the Tamar Bridge one lane was closed due to the strong winds in the early evening, though traffic continued to move freely.
