Roller Girls are on right track
WHEELS of steely determination will glide more freely now a charity has revealed a track for battling out a roller derby.
Plymouth YMCA's sports hall floor has been newly resurfaced with a marked regulation roller derby track – which means the Plymouth City Roller Girls will be able to play without the danger of marker cones getting in the way.
The charity's new facility also means the city's fast, fierce and all-female skating team can train at a more furious pace during their twice weekly sessions at the charity's Honicknowle Lane leisure centre.
"Not many roller derby teams have access to these large professional surfaced tracks so hopefully the experience and solid preparation we've gained in training at Plymouth YMCA will give us an edge in the showdown at the end of the month and help us in our fight for the league title," said Elizabeth from the Plymouth City Roller Girls who skates under her roller derby alias, Kathleen Hamma.

The team raised £400 towards the cost of the new roller derby track.
The opening game of the South West's first roller derby season is set for this Saturday.

Advance tickets for the event, which is being held at Plymouth's Life Centre, cost £7 or £10 to include entrance to the after party.
