Rollins rolls in with Badbone trombone
LEADING UK jazzman Dennis Rollins is bringing his Badbone band to Plymouth.
The Guildhall gig is on June 26 and is being organised thanks to Kaos Production and the B-bar, fresh from their success with the first Barbican International Jazz and Blues Festival.
They stepped in after Rollins' scheduled appearance in the city was a casualty of the folding of the summer jazz programme at the Royal William Yard.
The award-winning trombonist, band leader, composer and educator is a product of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and was in iconic Brit-jazz outfit the Jazz Warriors.
He has worked with Courtney Pine, Baba Maal, Jamiroquai, Brand New Heavies and Blur.
Dennis is an Ambassador for the National Foundation for Youth Music's Endangered Species programme, helping to boost youth interest in instruments like trombone, French horn, double bass, tuba and oboe.
Badbone & Co won the BBC Radio 3 Jazz Line Up Award for Best Band in 2006, earning praise from Quincy Jones in the process and Dennis Rollins won the Marston's Pedigree British Jazz Award for Best Trombone Player.
Rollins and Badbone will be performing at the Lower Guildhall (lower floor) and tickets are £15 (01752 242021).
