CHILDREN at a pre-school were thrilled when they received a letter from the Queen, thanking them for helping her celebrate her Diamond Jubilee.

The 75 youngsters at Crosspark Pre-school in Saltash marked the anniversary in style, holding half a dozen street parties to which parents, grandparents, other relatives, carers, former staff and past members of the pre-school committee were invited.

Manager Jane Newman said the outside of the pre-school, next to St Stephen's School in Longmeadow Road, was decorated with bunting.

And the children collected pictures of the royal family, drew up a family tree, learned about the princes and princesses and were fascinated by stories of the royal corgis.

Deputy manager Trudy Grimwood then suggested sending a photo of it, together with a card, to the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, congratulating them ion the anniversary.

The letter, written by the Queen's lady-in-waiting, said she had been "deeply moved by the wonderful response to her Jubilee, and is most grateful for the trouble you have taken to send her your kind message".

Jane said: "The children loved learning about the Queen, and to them 60 is a very large number.

"We were thrilled to receive a reply from Her Majesty, which will be framed, together with photos – and a cutting from The Herald!"

Crosspark Pre-school is also celebrating after receiving "outstanding in all areas" reports from its last two Ofsted inspections.
