NEARLY 20 competitors made the final event in the TH March Yealm Yacht Club Autumn Series an event to remember.

The 19 yachts on the line took on a force five to six wind, with the series undecided right up until the last race.

In Class One, Neil Wiseman, sailing Dan Fellows' 'Megan' took first place in the race and the series, closely followed by Saltheart (Chris Williams) and Xanadu (Ian Kennedy) who were second and third respectively in the race and the series.

In Class Two, a convincing win by Graham Carter in 'Jason' gave him victory on the day and in the series, with Mike Knight's 'Hullabaloo' second and the Leonards in 'Cunning Plan' third.

The Leonards also took third place in the series, with second place overall going to Blue Star (Peter Courthampton).

After the race, the series sponsors presented a bottle of champagne to each class winner.

THE Housing With Respect partners held a joint sailing event for their young residents in the Plymouth area.

As part of the celebrations of diversity during respect week, Westcountry Housing in conjunction with the other Housing With Respect partners, invited 23 young people aged 11-18 to take part in a sailing event from Plymouth to Saltash.

The event – for many of the youngsters the first time they had been on the water – started at the Mayflower Marina.

The aim of the day was to learn to respect differences in terms of equality and diversity through some fun activities on the water. All those taking part learned to reef the sail and steer the boats.
