Salon staff raise cash
A TEAM of salon staff put their skills to good use raising funds to help people fighting cancer.
Charleine Wain, owner of Maiya's Salon in Buckwell Street, the Barbican, chose to help Derriford Hospital's Birch ward after the disease struck one of her staff's family.

TRIM: Maiya's Salon present a cheque for £645 to Derriford Hospital's Birch Ward after a day of raising money doing dry cuts and manicures. Salon owner Charleine Wain offers a cut to Dr Adrian Copplestone with Emma Quaye, Charlie Mousley, Dawn Farrow, Tracey Lewarne, Becky Hick and Amy Millman
Charleine said: "Our apprentice sadly lost her brother last year to cancer, when he was aged just 25.
"We all decided we wanted to raise money for the Birch ward and the work they do, with the Plymouth Leukaemia and District Fund.

Charleine and her team, which also included Kelly Barber, Nicola Hague and Alison Farrow, set about doing dry cuts and manicures from 9am to 7pm, at £5 a go.
Charleine said: "We were completely packed out. We did about 120 services, back to back all day.
"It was a great feeling to hand over the cheque and everybody in the salon worked really hard."
