PEOPLE have the chance to win a "green roof" at their local school in a competition to spot unusual species.

To mark National Science & Engineering Week next month, the British Science Association is offering to build a 200sq m green roof on a UK school.

To enter, people are asked to upload snaps of creatures they do not recognise spotted in their garden, park, school or hedgerow to www.whatonearth.org. uk.

Specialists from all fields of natural science will examine, identify and catalogue the find to spot, collect and identify as many species as possible over the week.

The roof will be awarded to a school in the area that has uploaded the most pictures. All participants will receive a free packet of seeds.
