Scott Griffiths bids to keep Plymouth Argyle's run going

SCOTT GRIFFITHS is hoping the 'great start' to his loan spell at Plymouth Argyle will continue when they take on Cheltenham Town at Whaddon Road tonight (7.45).

The Peterborough United left-back has played three games for the Pilgrims, and they have won all of them.

His debut came in a 2-1 home defeat of Aldershot Town in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round on October 9, only hours after putting pen to paper.

Griffiths has since played in back-to-back League Two wins, away to bottom-of-the-table Barnet (4-1) and against visiting Rochdale (3-1).

Argyle have three more games before the end of Griffiths' one-month loan spell, starting at Cheltenham.

They are also away to Rotherham United on Saturday before travelling to Dorchester Town in the FA Cup first round, most probably on November 3 but that is still to be confirmed.

Griffiths' loan arrangement allows him to play against the Football Conference South club – if selected.

He told Herald Sport: "It has been a great start to my time here. I hope we can get another three wins – that would be brilliant for me and the lads.

"We have been playing some great football. I have seen it in the games and it has been showing in training as well.

"The lads can pass the ball well, move it quickly and everybody has been doing really well."

Argyle are in 15th position in League Two, but only two points behind Devon rivals Exeter City, who are in the last of the play-off positions.

Griffiths said: "It's usually really tight in the league at this time of year.

"I don't think anybody should get too carried away by the position they are in until at least January or February. That's when it really starts to take shape."

Griffiths took a lot of encouragement from Argyle's 3-1 victory over Rochdale at Home Park on Saturday, when on-loan Aldershot Town striker Guy Madjo twice netted from the penalty spot.

Rochdale had won their previous four away league games, including a 2-1 triumph at League Two pacesetters Gillingham.

Griffiths said: "It was definitely a good win for us. They (Rochdale) are a strong team but we matched them well.

"We were the better team and got the points we deserved."

Cheltenham had been unbeaten for six league games before losing 3-1 at Bradford City on Saturday, so they will be keen to bounce back from that against Argyle.

Griffiths said: "Every game in League Two is a tough one. Everybody knows it can go either way on the day unless you are having a particularly good run or are playing a team which is unfortunate enough to be in very bad shape.

"We are in good form and Cheltenham seem to be doing alright so it's anybody's game."

It is still early days, but Griffiths admitted he would be interested in extending his loan at Argyle.

He had not played any first team football since March before his move to Home Park, which came about after an injury to regular left-back Robbie Williams.

Griffiths said: "I like the club and I like the area. Being five hours away from home isn't as bad as what I thought it would be.

"I have settled into the place I'm staying at. I'm really happy with that, and everybody has made me feel welcome here."

He added: "Playing first team football is a great thing, especially if you are winning games."
