PARENTS who have suffered bereavement through the loss of a pregnancy or death of a baby are invited to a special service of remembrance.

Derriford Hospital's chapel on level seven will host the service next month which will include readings, reflections, prayers and a memorial reading of the names of the babies who have died during pregnancy or shortly after birth.

Family members will be presented with a white rose as they leave at the conclusion of the service.

Rodney Baxendale, head of pastoral and spiritual care, said: "Every six months parents, family and friends come together to remember the baby that they have lost. Such a loss is particularly difficult because the important memories that parents cherish of their childhood are absent. Our service of remembering together is a time when we can all acknowledge a precious life and parents have the space to grieve with others who have travelled a similar journey. The service is open to everyone, whether they suffered their loss six months or 60 years ago. This is an opportunity to remember together and share in the support that hope provides."
