Seven people accused of conspiring to brings drugs from Liverpool to Plymouth

SEVEN people have appeared in court jointly charged with conspiring to bring Class A drugs from Liverpool to Plymouth

Antiques trader Wayne Harle-Stephens, 55, James Griffin, 19, Patrick Mooney, 21, Alison Bates, 42, John Ward, 18, Karl Corson, 19 and Patrick White, 18, all appeared at Plymouth Crown Court yesterday.

They are jointly charged with conspiring with others to supply heroin between January 1, 2011 and May 29, 2012.

Wayne Harle-Stephens, of The Parade on the Barbican, Patrick Mooney, of Berkshire Drive, Ford, John Ward, aged 18, of Embankment Road, Plymouth, Karl Corson, of Tresillian Street, Cattedown, and Patrick White, of Waresley Crescent in Liverpool all pleaded not guilty to the charge.

James Griffin, from East Lancashire Road, West Derby and Allison Bates, from Minton Road, Kirkby both offered guilty pleas.

Harle-Stephens also pleaded not guilty to once charge of possession of cannabis with intent to supply while Bates also pleaded not guilty to one charge of possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply.

The case was brought to court following a joint operation – codenamed Operation Rio – led by officers from Devon and Cornwall Police's Serious and Organised Crime Investigation Team (SOCIT) in conjunction with Merseyside Police.

It saw a number of properties searched in both Plymouth and Liverpool with a number of significant seizures of drugs and cash.

A trial of six weeks was set to begin on May 7 next year at Plymouth Crown Court.

Stephen Kearns, 29 of Hornby Place, Merseyside , John Cavanagh, 49, from Barbrook Way, Walton, and Elliot Barlow, 23, from Lenham Way, Speke, Carl Barlow, 22, from Savage Road, St Budeaux and Joseph Pines, 20, of North Road West, Plymouth, are set to appear at Plymouth Crown Court on November 30 for a plea and case management hearing on a similar joint charge of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
