THE 2009 Santa fun run in Barnstaple will feature a pair of festive visitors this year.

Vera Sandeberg from North Buckland, and her running partner Kathy Stockwell will be taking part in the event with their two Shetland Ponies, Betsy and Lottie, who will be dressed up as reindeer.

The event, in aid of the North Devon Hospice, takes place on Sunday, December 6 and will see more than 200 Santas run the 5km course around the town.

The two ponies are no strangers to fundraising having taken part in sponsored walks and carnivals in the past.

Owner Vera said: "Betsy and Lottie just love meeting people and being active so the fun run is perfect for them and an ideal way to show off their reindeer outfits.

"They love Hocking's ice cream and a glass of cider so after walking 5km I might just treat them."

The course starts and finishes at Mill Road and is hosted by Barnstaple Town Football Club and Barnstaple Rugby Club.
