KIND-hearted shoppers have donated three shopping trolleys worth of food to servicemen and women.

Operation Shoebox, a volunteer-based charity, visited Lee Mill's Tesco store to collect the items to send to troops on the front line.

The items will be packed into shoe boxes and sent mainly to servicemen who do not get mail from family and friends.

Kate Entwistle, Plymouth co-ordinator for Operation Shoebox, said: "I want to say a big thank you to the public for its support.

"Even the most basic things sent to people serving on the frontline will mean an awful lot to them.

"It helps with morale and it seems only right that we support them as they are fighting on our behalf."

Items donated to the collection include boxes of Pringles, cereal bars, biscuits and packets of Super Noodles.

Kate said more local collections are planned for the future.
