Former Plymouth social worker is struck off for misconduct
A FORMER Plymouth social worker has been struck off the social care register after failing to carry out child protection visits.
Yvonne Booth, who worked for Plymouth City Council until 2007, was told she must not practice as a social worker after misconduct was proven by the General Social Care Council at a hearing in London yesterday.

Ms Booth was absent from the hearing, but the GSCC's committee said it was "satisfied" that her conduct "calls into the question the suitability" of her remaining on the register.
It had been alleged Ms Booth failed to carry out child protection visits and did not keep up-to-date records in relation to vulnerable service users.
She had also allegedly failed to complete required work within reasonable timescales — namely, "core assessments".
Yesterday's hearing found all parts of the total six allegations proved in terms of misconduct.
A report issued after the hearing said Ms Booth had been given a written warning on March 6, 2007.
The report said she "underestimated the risk to children" and, as a result, "placed vulnerable service users at risk of harm".
It also said an allegation that Ms Booth did inform the out-of-hours service when she discovered that a vulnerable child was missing was proved.
The report said: "There had been no evidence of remorse or insight. The registrant's behaviour was so serious that removal is necessary to protect the public and other service users."
The case is the second to hit the city council this year.
In April, Charon Salisbury, a senior social worker, was thrown out of the profession.

“Not defending her, but I wonder if she lost the plot due to being overloaded with work? Some people don't handle that situation as well as others. There may possibly be more to the case than is reported here.”

“Apparently Ms Booth didn't think enough about the event to even show up. Which leads to the real question at hand. Is this really news or is it just idle gossip to fill up space? I'm certainly not interested.”

“There are far too many wishy-washy women in the social services nationwide, let's get a few more men in there to show 'em how to decisively take control of situations.

“The social services are now largely a bunch of mealy-mouthed sandal wearers wallowing in a plethora of non-jobs. A by product of New Labour's failed social engineering mission. A gravy train that needs derailing.”

“I am pleased that someone failing in their work has been fairly punished, especially if it is their responsibility to protect vunerable members of our society, but let us not forget all the good that is also done by those that have to put up with the abuse, threats and actual physical assaults from those that commit these offences against minors and the vunerable. Once again, you never hear about the good, only the bad, so let's all jump on the band wagon. No, I am not a social worker, just married to one who cares and does an excellent job, even when dealing with extremely devious people who try to hide their crimes against society.
