Solar panels on Plymouth council buildings in £168,000 plan
SOLAR panels will start going up on the Council House “in a matter of weeks”.
Cllr Mark Lowry, the city’s finance supremo, has set aside £168,000 in the budget for the next financial year to pay for the first wave of electricity-generating photovoltaic panels.
He said the power generated would repay the cost of borrowing money to install them – and then go on to make money for the council.
“It’s a no-brainer,” said Cllr Lowry, the Cabinet member for finance. “Personally I’d put them on every building but perhaps not everyone would agree with me.”

“Surprised to see the Herald use a sarcastic quip when describing Cllr Lowry. I hope we will never hear any complaints from Uncle Joe Evans about government cuts, PCC is obviously awash with filthy lucre”

“Grief.
It seems OK for the less well off to subsidise PCC then because this is exactly what is happening by installing solar panels. Electricty prices are higher so that the people who can afford them get enough subsidy to pay them off after 25 years. Only the other day I read an article about how PCC were trying to obtain cheaper supplies for Plymothians and now they do the exact opposite!”

“Does this mean PCC wont be selling the Civic Centre? If so it could save us millions of pounds building them a shiny new palace.”
