AFTER building a 3-0 half-time lead, Star Cars had to withstand a second half comeback by the students but hung on to progress to the final.

Lee Withey gave Cars the lead with a cracking, 20-yard strike, finding the bottom corner before Lee Small doubled the tally by back heeling home a Jamie Grinrod cross.

Cars' third was a bizarre effort with Matt Mazzoni netting with a wind-assisted shot from the halfway line.

Union stuck to their task and gave Cars some nervous final minutes.

Plymouth University…5 City Police…1

THE students started cagily, allowing Police to seize the initiative and take an early lead. Uni responded and drew level through Evan Green and went on to dominate the first half with a second goal coming via James Fergie.

Uni came bursting out of the blocks at the start of the second half and Alex Lambert made it 3-1 with a blistering shot.

Police could have conceded a fourth only for Ish to miss a penalty. Ish atoned for his miss by putting Uni 4-1 up with a well-taken strike.

Uni wrapped up the tie in the closing stages with Tom Brazier finding the target.

PREMIER DIVISION Marjon (III)…0 Plymouth Dukes (A)…1

THERE was little to write home about with the only goal coming from Jamal Francis.

DIVISION ONE CIty College Plymouth…4 Royal Marine Band…3

ALL the goals came in the first half of this match played at a blustery Brickfields, with the Bandsmen going into a second minute lead when the home keeper's clearance rebounded off Band striker Phil Davies to roll back into the net.

Another error resulted in College equalising with an own-goal on 10 minutes.

A 20-yard lob by Sam Nowell gave College the lead before a quickly taken free-kick caught Band napping allowing Byron Robbins to make it 3-1.

Adam Tozer made it 4-1 from the penalty spot after College striker Jake Heggs was brought down in the box by the visitors' custodian.

On 35 minutes Mark Hambly pulled a goal back for Band with a shot across the keeper.

An entertaining first half was brought to a close with Band getting a third courtesy of a blistering James Horner strike.

29 Commando…1 Lipson Community College…1

LIPSON created early chances and were unlucky to see Lee Tippett's shot come back off the crossbar.

Commandos then came at Lipson only to find visiting keeper Tyler Roden in sparkling form.

On the half-hour Lipson broke the deadlock when Tippett and Myers combined well allowing the latter to slot home.

Commandos fashioned a stunning 25-yard equaliser.

Lipson had a big penalty appeal turned down on 85 minutes.

Plymouth Dukes (B)…2 Marjon (IV)…2

LEADERS Marjon needed a late equaliser to snatch a vital point in a bizarre encounter that saw three own-goals. Dukes went two-up with Marjon defenders contributing both goals. Then Dukes repaid the compliment with one of their defenders putting through his own net to reduce the deficit. Up popped Ben Thompson to net Marjon's all-important equaliser.
