TUCKED away in Falmouth is pop artist Stuart Hampton who is causing quite a stir in the art world with art connoisseurs and musicians alike.

Having recently completed commissions for music legends Pete Townshend of The Who and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Stuart has now landed a commission from Chris Hewitt, of Ozit Records, to design the album cover for a Velvet Underground release coming later this year.

Stuart said: "I can't believe I'm following in the footsteps of Andy Warhol by designing the album cover for one of my favourite all-time bands, The Velvet Underground. This really is a dream come true and I hope that I can show other artists and painters that following your dreams can work.

"Album cover design is the area that I intend to lean towards as I am a big fan of Abdul Mati Klarwien, the artist who designed album covers for Miles Davis and Santana in the '70s."

Earlier this month Stuart also got to present a painting of Joy Division to the band's former bass player Peter Hook, also of New Order. One of Stuart's paintings

is currently on display in Falmouth Art Gallery until November 7.
