DENTAL students have been helping city children get their teeth into art with an education project.

Children aged between five and nine at the Pembroke Youth Service have received dental advice and support from the city's Peninsula Dental School students.

They engaged children with quizzes and art competitions.

Examples of the art works will be on display at an exhibition at the Peninsula Dental School's Dental Education Facility in Devonport February 16 from 6pm to 8pm.

Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Mandi Leaves, Pembroke Youth Service manager, said: "The dental students have been taking the kids through general well-being for teeth and it has been great.

"They are looking forward to their trip to the Dental Education Facility and to having their art work on display there."

The project was part of the students' Special Study Unit to take the message of good dental hygiene to the community.

Dr Gill Jones, Peninsula Dental School director of community based dentistry, said: "Our students spend a lot of time on Special Study Units in the community. It is great experience for them and also allows us to give something back to the communities in which we operate."

The Pembroke Youth Service is based at the Mount Wise Neighbourhood Centre.

The Devonport dental education facility is part funded by the Devonport Regeneration Community Partnership.
