BIOLOGY students have been getting to grips with their subject at Dartmoor Zoo.

Plymouth University has linked up with the zoo to offer field trips and placement opportunities to its BSc environmental biology students.

The three-year degree covers topics as varied as animal behaviour, climate change biology and plant physiology.

Dr Mick Hanley, programme lead, said: "There is an increasing emphasis on the development of good laboratory and field practical skills. Field trips, including a week-long visit we run to the Azores and placement-year opportunities, like this one with Dartmoor Zoo, are the perfect opportunity to enrich student learning by putting them at the heart of their chosen subject."
