“Indeed it does say sudden. But that doesnt mean you suddenly crash the minute a hail stone hits the deck. Foot off the gas, drop some speed and all is good. Carry on plowing through at speed regardless, your going to come unstuck. I wonder how many vehicles passed through the 'sudden' hail before the first one crashed. And no one crashed on the other carriageway? Drive accordingly, arrive safely. Depending on other ar*****es the latter could be tricky.”

“As Haunt says, what do you all not understand about the word 'sudden'? If you are driving sensibly for the CLEAR, DRY conditions, at a reasonable speed, at the correct distance, and hit something unexpected and very slippery, that you did not have a chance of anticipating, that more than doubles your stopping distance and makes the hitherto sensible speed that you were travelling at positively suicidal, why does that immediately make you an idiot or a bad driver or whatever? I'd like to see how all you supercilious, sanctimonious and smug (not to mention psychic) finger-pointers would have coped!”
