Swimming is one of the best ways to boost fitness
SWIMMING is well known for being one of the best forms of all-round exercise for anyone wanting to get fit.
In Plymouth, there are a variety of swimming pools available all around the year, as well as the Life Centre opening in February 2012.
The city also has a number of inspirational swimmers including Commonwealth Games double medalist Antony James and World Championship team member Emma Wilkins.
Jon Rudd, Director of Swimming at Plymouth College and Head Coach at Plymouth Leander Swimming Club, has been coaching for 22 years. He said: "Swimming is one of, if not the best, fitness activity using the largest number of muscle groups at one time. A swimming pool is also a healthy and safe environment, and as a sport it is hard to injure yourself. Swimming is a top sport for people wanting to get themselves into shape and this campaign is a great way to get fit."

Rachel Shelton, spokeswoman for Everyone Active, which runs Plympton Swimming Pool and will run the Life Centre, said: "Swimming makes you feel refreshed, full of energy for the day ahead or it will help you unwind and reduce stress, plus improving your sleep."
Opportunities for swimming in Plymouth are only set to improve with facilities at the Life Centre, including its Olympic-sized pool, being among the best in the UK. The centre will have a 10-lane, 50-metre competition pool and a diving pool as well as a family leisure pool with flumes, 'beach entry' and bubble pool.
