A GIRL aged 17 has been charged with maliciously wounding her partner with a knife at their Plymouth home.

Plymouth Youth Court heard that the teenager allegedly cut the man's hand with a kitchen knife.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced the court in custody charged with causing grievous bodily harm to her boyfriend at their central Plymouth home on Sunday.

The prosecution claims that she armed herself with a kitchen knife before attacking the man.

CPS prosecutor Mike French claimed that the girl also punched him in the face.

The court heard that the man needed stitches to the webbing between his thumb and forefinger and also suffered a large swelling on his head.

The girl entered a 'not guilty plea' to the charge.

District judge Paul Farmer granted her bail on condition that she lives with her mother and stays away from the home she shared with her partner.

The girl must appear before Plymouth Youth Court again on October 12 when a date should be set for her trial.
