Tamarside Coast 'not complacent' as they close in on Plymouth netball title says team boss.

TAMARSIDE Coast boss Teresa Collins has ruled out any complacency from her unbeaten team as they close in on the Plymouth and District Netball League's Premier B title.

Coast have gone 13 games without a loss or a tie – one of only three teams in the entire league to do so.

They have four games left and are five points ahead of their closest challenger, Team Alpha.

Coast racked up their 13th straight win of the season with a 36-22 victory over lowly University III.

Three of their last four games, however, are against teams who could pip them for the title, if not promotion to Premier A.

Coast play third-placed Bar Mez on March 25, mid-table CSSA Angels on April 8, second-placed Team Alpha on April 15 and, perhaps the most dangerous of all, Plymouth Pilgrims II – whose first team is in the division above – on April 22.

Collins, however, insisted there was no edginess building as her team prepare for the last leg of the season.

She said: "There's no nerves creeping in – the girls are fairly confident and since we've done so well so far, they feel they can do it.

"I'm not feeling at all hassled – this is the players' challenge and I can only give them the tools to do the job.

"I know we're unbeaten, but I wouldn't be upset if we lost if we'd done our best. What would hurt me is if we lose to a team and we shouldn't have done.

"There's no complacency from the team, either. The players train really well and they are taking the challenge day by day."

In Division Three, one of the Tamarside family's three teams, Total Freight, were just on the wrong end of a 21-19 defeat to Plymouth Sirens.

Total Freight's attacking duo of Claire Talling and Karen Sercombe didn't miss a shot on goal in the first quarter, despite the physically imposing Sirens' defenders.

In the second quarter, coach Teresa Collins made some defensive switches involving Claire Butcher, Kelly Faulkner, Vicky Edgcumbe and Naomi Skentelbery, while Collins herself replaced shooter Talling.

Claire Butcher and Amy Manuell both made a series of notable interceptions, but Total Freight lost their edge and were trailing 10-8 by half time.

In the third quarter, Talling was back on, and her team recovered to trail 16-15.

In the final quarter, Collins replaced Talling and Kelly Faulkner replaced Vicky Edgcombe at goalkeeper.

Centre Chelsea Castell covered an enormous amount of court and linked well with Karen Somerset.

With attacker Karen Sercombe also playing well, Total Freight nearly clawed back the deficit but lost by two goals.

Talling was Total Freight's nominated player.

Plymouth Marjon Kites kept one foot on the relegation trapdoor with a 22-22 draw with basement team University II.

The draw did Kites far more good than University, who stay rooted to the foot of the table with just seven points from 15 games.

Marjon are two points clear of the second-bottom spot, at the moment occupied by All Angles after their 49-18 defeat by Plymouth Pilgrims last month.
