Tavistock couple on Channel 4 property show
A COUPLE from Tavistock will feature on TV tonight after converting the town's old railway station into luxury holiday accommodation.
Jenny and Colin Rogers will appear on Channel 4's Property Snakes and Ladders at 8pm, hosted by property guru Sarah Beeny.
The show focuses on people who bought property at the peak of the property market, and explores how they have fared in the credit crunch.
The couple have spent the last two years renovating and upgrading Tavistock's Old Railway Station, transforming the site into three five-star self-catering cottages.
The couple originally bought the station to add to their property portfolio of more than nine buy-to-let flats and houses around the country, but when the credit crunch hit, they had to consider an alternative use for the property.
They decided to turn it into three up-market holiday cottages, called Old Tavistock Railway Cottages.
Over the last 18 months, Sarah Beeny and Channel 4's Talkback Productions filmed at the property more than 16 times and followed Colin and Jenny on shopping trips around Tavistock, Dartmoor and in Plymouth.
In the city, they visited Plymouth City Market and The Cheese Shop and bought fabric for curtains and flowers for display in the cottages.
Jenny said the couple were not sure what the hour-long programme would contain because they were not allowed to see a preview.
"They have taken over a hundred hours of film over the last eighteen months, so it will be quite exciting, if a little nail-biting, to see what bits they have chosen to go into the programme," she said.
"We were thrilled that Talkback Productions wanted to include our property in the new series."
The original station exterior has been maintained and restored, and each holiday cottage has access to the old station platform, now in the form of courtyard-style gardens.
Many original items from the station were removed before the couple bought the property, but they have kitted out each cottage with antiques and arrange extras including catering, booking theatre tickets, walking tours or golf.
All their hard work has paid off – the cottages have been independently graded by Visit Britain and have been given a 5 star rating.

“I've stayed at the station since it has been converted and think it's wonderful. During our stay we had the pleasure of meeting Jenny and Colin. Lovely people and a brilliant job on converting the station! Look forward to watching the program tonight and coming back to stay in one of the wonderful cottages again.”
