I AGREE with J Pearce's letter (March 4) headlined Be Responsible, aimed at dog owners.

A member of my family recently had a stroke and needs to go for walks regularly to keep mobile. We have had to stop going in Central Park because some dog owners allow their animals to run free and approach other walkers. It is no use dog owners saying: "Oh, it's all right, he won't hurt you!" Although walkers may appear fit and well, a dog jumping or bounding around a person who has to make more effort to walk than others could cause that walker to fall.

This also applies to cyclists who come from behind without ringing their bell to warn they are approaching.
