The shark was tagged and then released back into the water. The catch was believed to be the first in around 30 years in local waters.
More commonly found off the coast of Asia and North America, threshers are considered a “vulnerable” species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.

“There is nothing in the footage to show it's a thresher but general shape suggests it is. Was it actually caught though? Looks like it was just brought alongside the boat which doesn't count under IGFA international angling rules. Threshers are far more common in British waters now than they were thirty years ago.

“Lol legal tease, Its a fish!
Sharks belong to the Class Chondrichthyes which consists of cartilaginous fish.
If they were mammals they would belong to the Class Mammalia.
is a thresher in the pic tho.”

“@BS_Hater - my husband (a marine biologist) has requested that I a) point out that a shark is not a fish it is a mammal and b) that the picture is of a thresher shark.”
