Just hours left for you to name the Greatest Janner
SIX weeks ago we asked you to name the greatest Janner of all time, and the names came flooding in.
You suggested dozens of names from history, as well as living Plymothians, and throughout February we have been asking you to vote on who you think should be named the greatest Janner.
The vote will close at the end of Friday, and next week we aim to reveal who you, the people of Plymouth, have named as your greatest heroes. So if you aren't among the 4,000 people who have voted so far then this is your final chance to decide.
Herald and thisisplymouth Digital Publisher Neil Shaw said: "The nomination process was fascinating with some obvious names making the list, while others were left out.

"It opens up the question of what a 'Janner' is – some of those nominated were born and raised in the city, some have moved away, others moved here later in their life. Does the term Janner extend as far as Tavistock, down into South East Cornwall and across South Devon?
"Who you choose as your heroes will help define the area, and the period in history, that the term Janner encapsulates – as well as the qualities of what a Janner is. There are some front-runners in the vote, but these last few hours could make all the difference at the top of the table."
The greatest Janner vote was launched after Plymouth City Council held a vote of its own where you could choose a local hero to have their image installed on a city bench.
Unlike that vote, which came with a pre-defined shortlist, you have had free reign throughout the process to name and vote for whoever you choose.

“I believe the above have been mistaking 'janners' for swillys the sub-chav species of moronic, burberry wearing, ****s that parade our streets and give all us Plymouthian inhabitants a bad name.
Now, a janner, as will be correctly stated by one who was born and lives here, is a term used by most outsiders to describe the people who live in Plymouth, Devon.
Not to be mistaken for a swilly which is actually a sub-species here and should be wiped out very quickly. For further infomation on these rodents see chav.”
