Plymouth diving sensation Tom Daley might not have done as

well as hoped during this week’s Beijing Olympic games, but the

14-year-old’s television viewing figures have been diving into

first position.

According to the website www.guardian.co.uk 3.3 million

viewers tuned in at breakfast time on BBC1 yesterday, August

11, to watch his performance.

Unofficial overnight ratings claim BBC1's Olympic Breakfast

had more than 50 per cent of the early morning TV audience for

Tom and diving partner Blake Aldridge in their synchronised 10m

platform diving final between 7.30am and 8.30am.

Ratings peaked at 3.3 million viewers and a 51per cent share

for the 15 minutes from 8.15am as viewers followed the Olympic

diving. In total, BBC1's Olympic Breakfast pulled in an average

audience share of 1.9 million viewers and a 45 per cent share

between 6am and 9am.

Fans of Tom Daley are also flocking to The Herald’s website

thisisplymouth.co.uk, which has enjoyed a healthy increase in

web hits over the past week.

Stories relating to Tom Daley on thisisplymouth.co.uk surged

with 10,579 web page views on Tom alone since August 6 this

year.

The Herald video footage of Tom on thisisplymouth.co.uk has

also been extremely popular with 2,256 viewings since the end

of March.

Our video of Tom Daley on YouTube, which features an

interview with Tom, footage of him in training in Plymouth and

of him meeting Dame Kelly Holmes, has been viewed more than

116,000 times, has a rating of four-and-a-half out of five and

has attracted more than 247 messages of support for Tom.

The video, filmed by The Herald before Tom set off for

Beijing, was also selected as a 'featured' upload by YouTube,

meaning it was flagged up to the international video sharing

website's millions of users as 'one to watch'.
