Traffic chaos

HAVING lived in Devonport for 40 years and more, and seeing many changes, some beneficial, but others have brought nothing but chaotic problems, the most recent the road layout changes from the library to the entrance to Devonport Park near the elderly people's home.

Between these two points there are no less than 16 pedestrian crossings, four controlled by lights as pelican crossings, and one stupidly positioned outside the Mecca Bingo main entrance on a blind corner.

Two of these light controls are outside the life house and approximately 12 metres apart. There was never a problem with traffic hold-ups, but now most of the day traffic backs up as far as Albert Road one side and to Stonehouse Bridge, worst of all traffic trying to get out of Granby Way has the biggest problem as vehicles come into the yellow box area at the life house and prevent Granby traffic from proceeding to the city centre. Many times commuters go in the opposite direction and get to the city centre via Stoke, I am surprised that the bus companies and delivery vehicle haven't complained.

“Claire Teach said- 'I had a wild youth - what can I say!'..

So did well-known christian evangelist Kirk Roberts, he's got 'Love' and 'Hate' tattooed across his knuckles from his younger days, but I doubt if Peter will say to him at the pearlies "On yer bike mate, you ain't coming in here with hands like that"..:)”

    “Mr Moy
You probably aren't a "thug" and besides you are more than likely too old to be one anyway.
What you are guilty of however is extremely bad taste and an impaired judgement.
Some tattoos are so artistically done they can look amazing,on a younger person those type of tattoos you have are just hideous and when on someone of your age just look ridiculous.”

    “Dear Enraged....

Although the commentator stated he had tattoos whilst in the Army in 1957-1967 he didn't say that he had the star on his forehead done then... seeing it's been 44 odd years since 1967 there is every chance that he had the star tattoos done after he left 'The Mob'.

If you are going to make angry comments at least have the courtesy to read (and understand) the original statement!”

“I have tattoos as do quite a few of my colleagues - including an Assistant Principle. I dont believe anyone judges me on them, but maybe they do. Maybe they get a pleasant surprise when they realise that I can actually do my job and that it makes absolutely no difference that I have some.

I had a wild youth - what can I say!”

“Is my maths wrong, but if you were in the army between '57 and '67 that would make you in your 70's now????

I think you are telling porkies about your tats, as tattoos on the face were an absolute no no in those days, particularly in the army as they were associated with punks and anti-establishment mentality in the 70's. Not the image of the clean cut great british soldier that the government wanted.

If you are going to make up stories, make up realistic ones.”

“A tattoo on your forehead, whilst in uniform? Self inflicted injury, surely?”

“We were asked on a management course which person out of 2 photos we were more likely to employ. The first had a Business like appearance, in a suit, shirt, tie, briefcase, etc. The second was in T-shirt and jeans, tattoos on his arms and neck and short hair.
Most said the first, the businessman, without realising that it was in fact the same person in the two different photographs, made up by the BBC effects dept.
So ... don't judge a book by its cover. Some of the hardest workers and nicest people have tattoos.”

“Would you allow me to put an objective slant on this issue?

In recent years a young man I knew very well, came to me looking for some commercial advice and some help; which of course I was glad to give him. . The first advice I gave him was to always remember that first impressions are always very, very important. . It is like going for an interview for a job. . . He's very skilled and always extremely helpful, and I was sure he had the ability to succeed. . You may be interested to know, he now always wears a long sleeved shirt when going to meet his clients. . The other advice I gave him was what I was given along time ago(adjusted for inflation of course). . "The hardest profit to make is that very first hundred £pounds". . He's getting on very well now.”

“I used to fancy the woman in the chip shop summat rotten, but once she bent down to pick something up and I saw a small mystic symbol tattooed in the small of her back where her blouse had ridden up and it put me right off her..”
