Train carriage being transported on road gets stuck by bridge on busy Plymouth road
A high-speed train being carried on a low loader had to stop beneath the pedestrian footbridge over Gdynia Way, Plymouth, where it joins the Cattedown Roundabout.
The accident happened at about 3.30pm and traffic was delayed.
The long, high trailer had trouble negotiating the roundabout, then getting under the bridge.
It was forced to reverse while traffic on the busy route was held up.

“What really angers me is the near-monopoly this awful trash of a local 'news' paper has. Does the editor actually have any pride in turning out such rubbish? School children achieve better in school newspapers.
In the absence of a proper, free-market economy, there really needs to be proper regulation and trash like the Plymouth Evening Herald needs closing down and editorial staff need putting on the scrap heap where they belong. This city surely should have a proper local paper.
I might be accused of hypocrisy by reading the online version (as if I'd ever pay money for this waste of trees and ink) but that's my point...like BT, albeit on a national scale in the 80s, they have a momentum that has nothing at all to do with quality to the exclusion of publications that don't demean Plymouth and undermine the efforts of those trying to elevate the city's status.
This awful local rag makes Plymouth a laughing stock. We really need people to stop buying it.”

“I thought when the new editor took over this publication, it was going to get better. The opposite seems to be happening, some poor quality "news" in here again. It was hardly an accident, there were a few problems negotiating the corner onto Gydinia Way thats all.
The Mk 3 railway carriage is 75 feet or 23 metres long, plus as an exceptional load the company transporting the vehicle would have planned the route well in advance. The only reason it was moved by road and not rail is because of the problem with the wheels.Otherwise it would have been moved by rail using barrier vehicles etc.”

“What "accident". This trash local paper just gets worse and worse. To dramatise a story about a lorry carrying a long load having some difficulty navigating a low bridge...this comic does nothing for any attempts to have this city taken seriously.
Deserted b6 ITV, largely abandoned by independent radio and with a local paper this appalling...no wonder the BBC down here is so darned amateurish with no serious competition.”

“Winzo- have you ever been on a train that has gone under a bridge or through a tunnel, there is not enough headroom to put an already 14" high coach onto another 4" high wagon it would smash into everything in cornwall!”

“Yes Winso,
you are missing something, our railways were designed and built in the Victorian era, if the carriage went on a lo-loader rail wagon it would be too high to pass under many bridges or to go through any tunnels en-route as these are too low.”
