FAMILY members have paid tribute to a 'wonderful and kind' Plymouth man killed in a motorcycle crash on the A38.

Father-of-three Paul Henderson died after a collision involving his blue Triumph Tiger motorcycle and three other vehicles on Monday January 30 at the bottom of the St Budeaux slip road.

The 45-year-old leaves behind his devastated wife, Jackie, his sons Robert and Andrew, his daughter, Sarah, his parents, Carol and Gordon, as well as his brother and sister, David and Julie.

He also leaves his two grandchildren, Harvey and Azura and his future grandchild who is due in the summer.

His family paid heartfelt tribute to him, saying: "Paul was nothing but a saint, a gentle giant who was not just a husband, father, son, brother or grandson, but the whole foundation of his family.

"Words cannot describe how much he is going to be missed by everyone."

His parents said their son was one to be 'very proud of'. He had won a battle with Spondylitis and was well known in stage rallying.

His sister, Julie, said: "Many childhood memories will be locked in my heart. Many carefree hours, days and nights spent rebuilding rally cars followed by hours spent in all weathers waiting for Paul while he was competing in stage rallying. We were all members of the South Hams motor club."

Paul grew up in Plymstock and worked in Devonport Royal Dockyard for twenty seven years where he earned the respect he deserved, his family said.

His brother, David, said: "Memories of Paul battling against all odds with a smile. His willingness to always help anyone in need. There will always be a special place in my heart for someone I was proud to call my brother."

Paul did a lot of charity work including the Plymouth half marathon, where he raised over £500 for Multiple Sclerosis after his niece, Nikki, was struck down with this illness.

He also took part in many charity motorcycle rides like the Plymouth Megaride and the British Heart Foundation rides which he enjoyed with his wife and many of their friends.

His mother-in-law, Shirley, said: "Every family should have a 'Paul'. He was a highly respected gentleman who was always willing to help anyone without hesitation."

After the crash a 57-year-old woman from the Plymouth area was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and later released on police bail until April 30. Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 quoting police reference log 72 300112.
