True supporter
MICHAEL FOOT, above, who died last Wednesday at the age of 96, was a passionate supporter of the League Against Cruel Sports and became a patron of the organisation in 1984.
His determination to rid the country of bloodsports came to a head when, during his tenure as Party Leader, the Labour Party committed to banning them. It was the Labour Government which, two decades later, enacted that commitment. Michael was typical of people across the West Country in opposing hunting for 'sport'. Our campaigns to enforce the Hunting Act and to prevent animal suffering for 'sport' will live on in his memory.
