UPDATE: 1,200 still at illegal Dartmoor rave despite police roadblocks
POLICE set up roadblocks and cleared an area of Dartmoor after 500 cars and more than 1,000 people tried to take part in an illegal rave on Dartmoor in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Officers were called at 12.30am to the site of an illegal rave at Bellever Woods at Postbridge on the B3212 on Dartmoor.

Police say not only was there no permission for an event, heavy rain has made driving off-road in the area hazardous.
The land is owned by the Forestry Commission and no permission has been sought or granted to hold a rave.

By 9.30am police estimated there were still 1,200 people at the rave site and up to 500 vehicles still there.
Police have used powers under the Criminal Justice Public Order Act 1994 to prevent the rave from continuing and also put in place road checks to prevent intended persons from attending the site.
Due to the inclement weather and substantial amount of rain that has fallen over night the driving of vehicles on Dartmoor is particularly difficult off road.
Police are urging any people travelling to Dartmoor to attend this illegal rave to stay away as they will not be permitted on to the site.
Police would also advise any people already in the area to leave.

“How on earth some posters can think it is ok to have 1500 people defecate & throw glass & drugs around in an area that is home to livestock & frequented by families & children is beyond me. It only takes one discarded blisterstrip with one or more pills left to be found by a toddler who is playing there in say 2 weeks time. It isn't actually that hard to organise an event for 1500 people and make sure the sanitation, waste disposal & medical facilities are in place.”
