Uni whitewash Division One title rivals Liskeard

UNIVERSITY and Liskeard met for the first time this season in the Plymouth & District Badminton League.

The rivals were in competition for top spot in Medley Division One last season and separated by only the narrowest of margins.

University's Philip Fenner and Jo Philp helped seal an emphatic 9-0 win away from home.

Liskeard's Dave Harrington and Kelvin Buckley pushed Zune Teo and Dan Farrow to three ends 21-23, 23-21, 12-21.

Greenbank travelled to Ivybridge A and went home with a 7-2 victory.

In Division Two YMCA Kitto entertained Callington B.

The match was level pegging entering the mixed events with Callington taking the advantage to finish 5-4 victors.

Plymouth Life Centre travelled to Derriford Hospital, who went into the mixed events with a 4-2 advantage.

But Plymouth's Luise Ryan and Sei Jip Wong held their nerve against Ryan Dover and Donna Drummond to win the game 21-16, 21-15 and the match for the hosts 5-4.

In Medley Division Three Callington C entertained Tavistock, who sealed a 5-4 victory when Ray Northey and Pauline Hoare defeated Mike Kingcombe and Jessica Behenna 23-21, 17-21, 21-9.

In Men's Division A Victoria hosted Ivybridge and enjoyed a 12-0 win.

University B hosted the first game in Men's Division B entertaining Plymouth Life Centre B and running up an 11-1 victory.

Ron Prout and Adam Chow saved the whitewash for the visitors when they forced the points to be shared against Martyn Allen and Jerran Geo George 15-21, 21-10.

University B entertained Torpoint and won 12-0.

Derriford Hospital played host to University D but were on the wrong side of a 9-3 defeat.

The first match in Men's Division C was an inter-club encounter between two new entries in the League. Plymouth Life Centre C played host to their D team and won 10-2.

In the return match, Plymouth Life Centre C gained a 9-3 victory.

Mike Putwain was involved in all of the points for the PLC D Team.

Plymouth Life Centre D travelled to University C where they found the students to be on form as the hosts gained a 7-5 win.

In the Ladies Division, University B entertained a strong Devonshire team and went down 12-0.

YMCA Kitto played host to Greenbank and lost 10-2.
