A sudden hailstorm, accompanied by thunder and lightning briefly made Plymouth like giant snow globe about 1pm on Saturday.

“I was in the City Centre at 1pm for the bedroom tax protest, and I can assure the sceptics that it happened - I got hit on the head by a hailstone a couple of centimetres across. The last time that happened to me was in Texas; just before a tornado touched down!”

“Freak hailstorm? get off! It was just a short, sharp shower. No hailstones the size of golfballs! And predicted by the Met office too, for a change.”
