Plymouth City Roller Girls decided to club together with Plymouth-based eco-friendly junk band Weapons of Sound, to put on a half-hour dance protest outside Drake Circus, at the top of Cornwall Street.

Skaters and organisers Hannah Wood and Jaime Hutchinson said: "The Plymouth City Roller Girls ethos is all about empowering women and girls, our refs and volunteers, so they can thrive in roller derby and life. This cause fits exactly with what we stand for.

"The fact that one in three women in the world will be raped or beaten in her life is shocking.

"We believe the only place a woman should get hit is on the derby track!"
