During the interview Ruta was asked questions in English but provided answers in her native language of Lithuanian especially for use on the foreign network.

Her interview was presented as the lead story on the channel's news bulletin on Thursday, September 20.

Ruta's coach, John Rudd, also featured in the short report. His English responses were dubbed into Lithuanian.

The news report also showed the thousands of people gathered in Plymouth city centre and photos of Ruta presenting her gold medal alongside Tom Daley, Antony James and the other atheletes on the classic tour bus.

On the night of the parade through Plymouth Ruta spoke of her amazement at the number of people who turned out to welcome home the Westcountry's olympians.

Looking back on her time at the Olympics Ruta explained how she feels now she's back in Plymouth.

"I've been trying to get back into my usual routine of school and swimming. Winning gold has been like a dream and I keep thinking I'm going to wake up from it, but it doesn't happen," she said.

She added: "Winning a medal has made me so proud, it's the first gold medal since the independence of Lithuania."
