Cheltenham skipper Marlon Pack's sixth goal of the season ensured his side head into the npower League Two play-offs after an impressive 2-1 win at Plymouth.

Midfielder Pack headed Town's 56th-minute second after Plymouth substitute Juvhel Tsoumou had levelled.

Former Argyle striker Steve MacLean fired the visitors ahead from a 23rd-minute free-kick, with the ball wrong-footing home goalkeeper Jake Cole after taking a deflection off the end of the defensive wall.

Plymouth boss Carl Fletcher made a double substitution at the start of the second half and was rewarded when on-loan Preston striker Tsoumou headed home in the 55th minute.

Town goalkeeper Scott Brown saved a header from Ladjie Soukouna and when the ball came back out to the left, Onismor Bhasera crossed for Tsoumou to score.

From the restart, Cheltenham attacked and Jermaine McGlashan's angled shot from the right was well saved by Cole, but MacLean collected the ball and crossed to the far post where Pack headed down and in.

“Makes you wonder BillHicks why strikers don't score goals .....It all about style of play and service, none of which applies to Argyle. Dont get me wrong, they done well to escape the drop, but if they start off with the same team next season it will be "same old".

Its reassuring to see that so many of us on here have agreed that the team need to be strengthened...midfield and attack.

I expect CF has learnt alot this season and lets hope that (if he stays)the right players are brought in and the team play as a unit and not fragmented going forward in force.”

“Well there you have it... 2 points the difference in the end and the likes of Hereford, Dagenham and Barnet were banging the goals in for fun... 2 points folks...

Nothing game for either side... The robins hadn't won away in five so it was obvious who was going to get the result...

If nothing else it highlighted the fact that even given the bad start Argyle suffered they are still at best a middling 2nd division side.

Key players must be brought in to bolster key areas. The defense is looking better, midfield is coming along so attention has to be paid to a strike partnership that will fire us back up the league... Every other club seems capable of finding a striker or two who can find the net... But not Argyle for some reason.. Look at some of the personnel they have relied on in that department over the past few years.... Appalling strike records from all of them apart from BWP and he wasn't around long enough to make a difference... I mean, you had defenders ending the season with the highest goal tally !!!

Feeney and co don't got a goal in them all game long... Probably nice blokes and work their socks off for the team but no goals...

Could be worse though... we could still be lumbered with McClean... Talking of which, won't it be great next season to have all three Devon clubs battling it out again and Alan Gow back at Home park.... Come to think of it, all these players can score goals away from Home park... just couldn't score them for us... Barnes, he was another one”

“Typical end of season game with nothing hinging on the result for either team, But who on earth chose the man of the match? Whoever it was was watching a different game to me. Soukana is the climsiest footballer I have ever seen he tripped over his own feet a few times. A better choice would have been Hourihane but I agree with the others who say there is a lot of work to be done if we are not going to be struggling in the 4th division again next year.”

“End of season game would have liked to have see them finish on a high, but it wasnt to be.
Still I am very happy going into the close season and adding to the squad to play in the football league rather than the blue square league next season, all true green fans should welcome that.
Now let the manager recruit the players HE needs to push for promotion next term.
CONGRATULATIONS TO MAX AND LUKE ON YOUR AWARDS YOU BOTH DESERVE THEM WELL DONE.”

“The first 4 posts echo what I have been saying for now 2 seasons. Lack of goals, decent strikers etc. Maybe Mr Brent will have some contacts with a bit of left over cash from the proposed city centre revamp just announced to invest? Here's hoping.

We have escaped by working hard and from now the ONLY way is up.

Lets all enjoy the summer, keep the banter going and see what happens at the theatre of greens in the closed season.

“I thought Nelson played OK. He's a real gem for the future. At the moment he would be a great replacement for Purse or Blanchard if they miss matches. Feeney did lots of things well and often showed his experience. But he doesn't score goals and he doesn't bully the defence like Fletcher did. We need a goalscorer!

IMHO Young looks better and better every time I see him. He's young (no pun intended) so I hope we don't push him too quickly.

We need three or four new players for next season.”

“There is a heck of a lot of work to do to find some reasonable attacking midfield and front players before next season - fingers crossed. Interseted to hear a report from fans who went to the game - in particular how did Nelson and Feeney play ,”
