Plymouth people had a free choice to name whoever they wanted to take part in the poll - then people across the city spent a month voting for their top choice.
Olympic bronze medal winner and world diving champion Tom, 18, came first - followed by Sir Francis Drake, Plymouth Argyle president Chris Webb, Scott of the Antarctic and Dawn French.

“I tried to vote for Francis Drake but at the crucial moment of pressing the button I was dazzled by my teenage boy' and his friends in his photography group taking my picture using flash photography and voted for tweeting Tom by mistake. Can I have another go?”

“Maybe if the Herald dropped it's infatuation with Ton Daley,Viv Pengelly and increasingly Tudor Evans these days people might start to buy it again.
Tom's use of Twitter might be dishonest and stink but unlike Viv's hush hush World Cup visit and the infamous "Armageddon Clause",come on Tudor, time to come clean on that one,it hasn't cost Plymouth Taxpayers anything other than nausea and slight stomach churning.”
