Viable should contact Sir Richard
MY HUSBAND and I were really annoyed to read about a master plan drawn up by Sutton Harbour Holdings over the development of Plymouth airport.
There are other city's smaller than Plymouth that have retained their airports. Even Cornwall has managed to keep their airport open with help from Cornwall Council.
With the increase of rail fares due next January, this is all the more reason to retain our air link.
Several people I have spoken to have stated they would rather use Plymouth airport than drive to Exeter or Newquay to visit family and friends in the UK or Channel Islands.

Viable have my and my husband's full support. I would like to make a suggestion to the Viable group, have they thought of approaching Sir Richard Branson to see if he would be interested in their plans, as he has lost his franchise for the West Coast mainline? I don't have access to the internet but would be more than willing to write to Sir Richard.
So come on councillors and MPs, give your support to the Viable group and to all the people that have signed the petition to retain the airport.

“People forget this country is a small one and travel by plane in a lot of cases really isnt nessercery hence the underdevlopment of the uk domestic air travel market.
For an example I spent a year in Australia where they really do have a well devloped domestic air system with jetstar(quantas`s budget arm) virgin blue and tiger airways all competing for a slice of the market and flights between nearly every main city and at least close to all minor cities.....however that is because the distances between some cities is vast(perth to melbourne was about 2 days travel by train for example-) so a domestic air network is really needed to get people around in any decent timeframe.
Thats not the case in this tiny island known as the uk, hell if you can get to london in 4 hours by train direct into the city and not have the hassle of having to be at the airport 2 hours in advance/checking in/going through security/worrying about baggage weight/having to get from gatwick to london once flown into gatwick then why the hell would you fly espcially if it costs more which it did with air southwest a lot of the time? and that goes for every major city.”

“branson buys a company then sells it on and lives off the royalties by allowing them to use the name, Virgin 1 founded for 1 year then sold to sky then closed and changed to sky atlantic. virgin media founded by branson then sold off but only on the condition they keep the name so he can make money you can call that business i call it money hungry greed”

“Branson's projects are usually dead ducks AFTER he's run them rather than before in the case of the airport...”

“I had exactly the same thought Mrs Kitchen, though the project may be far too small for him,you never know, worth a try.”

“Mr Branson may very well like to be involved in Plymouth airport! It is First who have won in the West coast mainline battle, therefore he may wish to hit First's Great Western Franchise by competing against it with flights from Plymouth.”

“Tim said-'To be honest I don't see why he [Branson] would be interested in Plymouth airport. Even if it's viable, it's marginally so. The risks are high and the rewards are low"..
Hopefully he'd like a challenge..:)”

“Branson doesn't actually have much to do with most of the "Virgin" businesses these days. He's more of a figure head and a mouth piece. The media always put him on the telly so the Virgin group companies like to give him their announcements to do.
To be honest I don't see why he would be interested in Plymouth airport. Even if it's viable, it's marginally so. The risks are high and the rewards are low. Good luck to Viable though.”
