A MAN was injured after he was attacked by two other men — one with an iron bar — in an Ernesettle street.

The victim, a 29-year-old Plymouth man, was left needing stitches after the attackers punched, kicked and hit him with the iron bar in the street, said police.

The attack, which police believe was unprovoked, happened in Hornchurch Road at about 7pm on Monday night.

A police spokesman said the man was walking with his girlfriend in the street when a small silver car pulled up and both occupants — two men believed to be in their twenties — got out.

The spokesman said: "One of the occupants of the car ran at the man and attempted to hit him with an iron bar. The victim put his hand up to try to stop the attack but he was knocked to the floor.

"The man was then hit by the iron bar and also punched and kicked by both attackers. Lots of people came out into the street to watch, so we are keen to speak to them."

The spokesman said that the 29-year-old was 'lucky' not to be seriously injured. He sustained bruises and grazes, and also later had to be given stitches to a cut on his right arm at hospital.

Police are treating the attack as unprovoked and want anyone who has details about the two men to contact them as soon as possible. Witnesses should call the police on 08452 777444, quoting crime reference number EL/10/3481.

“I grew up on that street,it used to be a lovely place to live ,unfortunately the North of Plymouth including Whitleigh where I now live seem to be the dumping ground for druggys and drunkerds, only last week I saw 2 rather unpleasant ladies(want for a better word)swearing and cursing at each other down our shops in front of children and elderly people,my elderly mother will no longer go to the shops on her own because of these people hanging around the shops”

“I see my previous comments were removed, naming the people who were attacked. They are not innocent, smack heads fighting smack heads, it's all drug related no doubt!!”

“Tess- The reason police cant clear them up is because they have left it to late so there are too many out there also they have more important things (to them) to do like catch people speeding.”

“The charge here should be attempted murder as it was intentional and could easily have proved fatal. But our spineless CPS will only give a charge of assault or something equally deserving the slap on the wrist Gilbert will dish out.”

“I lived on this street when I was growing up. I had a lot of fun in Ernesettle and my mum wants to go back there. NO WAY, not in a million years will I let her go back there. Why have smackheads got to spoil everything. Why haven't the police got rid of them. These people should be put on an island together where they can get their fix delivered by boat and do what they need to do. It is so unfair on the law abiding citizens of Plymouth to have to put up with this type of thing. If you know a dealer do us all a favour and tell the police.”

“no graham no body came out to watch it happening, people came out to help the injured man and remove the children from that disgusting scene that was happening,
they are all smackheads fighting other smackheads, getting revenge on each other, it goes in circles and am sure it wont stop here. the poor children were traumatised by what they saw that night and if they remove all the smackheads, things would be alot smoother.”

“"Lots of people came to watch"...It wasnt ringside seats, nobody came to watch, by the time people heard the fuss outside and came out it was over....and the worst is that there were alot of children playing happily outside until that happened.....so whoever did this to him, obviously didnt care that there were children near them.....and as for unprovoked..they are all smackheads and need to be moved out of ernesettle, because there are decent people living here and hate the fact there are dealers doing what they do right in their street....Get rid.....”
