THE Volks Fest festival people are revving up a mini, writes Clare Robinson.

As part of this year's Summer Festival they will be holding a one-day version – not in their regular haunt at Newnham Park, Plympton, but in the city centre.

The Saturday, May 5 Plymouth Volks Fest Rewind gives organisers Vince Davis and Chris Smith the chance to feature some of the acts who have helped make the event a great in its five-year history.

Starting with one humble music marquee, the festival has become bigger and better each year, and now boasts a massive big top as the main venue plus a second stage and cabaret stage. Last year's headliners included Gentleman's Dub Club, pictured above. While the city centre event can't host anything on the same scale, it will offer a big stage, featuring live acts that have played the festival over the years, while the big screen will show footage and photos of past participating bands and there'll be bars, a fun fair, food and drink, hopefully the odd VW, thereby recreating the whole Volks Fest vibe, or as near to it as possible.

While the piazza space has been supplied by the City Centre Company, the stage and set-up costs must be born by the festival organisers. The mini fest will be free to the public, so organisers are appealing to local businesses for help in the form of sponsorship.
