The play, which uses puppetry to recreate the horse Joey live on stage, has been a smash hit at the National Theatre in London and at the New London Theatre where it is enjoying a sell-out run.
The production, based on the book written by Devon author Michael Morpurgo, will start its national tour in Plymouth before spending nine months on the road.

When the National revealed it would be touring the show last October it said the tour would run in tandem with the show in London.
War Horse opened at the National in 2007.
It is also being staged at the Lincoln Theatre Center in New York and is about to embark on a 20-city tour of the US.
It is to open at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto in February and at the State Theate in Melbourne in December.

“Yes - it is suitable for children to watch - a little 'strong language' is used within the context of trench warfare and death etc. Take a tissue. Brilliant - absolutely fantastic.”
