Warship ready for gun firing ceremony

DEVONPORT frigate HMS Monmouth will be firing her ceremonial guns about 40 times on Saturday in preparation for an event to help honour Britain's military personnel.

The crew will be will be practising in Plymouth Sound for her role in Armed Forces Day.

Crowds enjoying Sunday's Plymouth Armed Forces event in the city will see HMS Monmouth and HMS Sutherland taking part in a sail-past below the Hoe with their helicopters flying above.

HMS Monmouth will fire her 17-gun salute at about 3.30pm.

This will then be reciprocated by the Lord Lieutenant of Devon.

The sail-past will be accompanied by an additional attraction – Royal Marines sliding down a rope (fast-roping) from a helicopter into a small boat in the Sound.

HMS Monmouth will fire her guns between 2.30pm and 3.30pm during Saturday's rehearsal.
